There's also a YouTuber from Australia who does military analysis, calling himself Perun. For a pro-Ukrainian YouTuber he's reasonably objective, in my opinion, which is why it mystifies me he would use a name that is so easily associated to the NeoN*** stuff.
Yes, that's entirely possible. But given that he's pro-Ukrainian and a lot of Ukrainian neo-N***s are into the Perun-stuff, this could be interpreted as somewhat unfortunate. He could have chosen a better pseudonym for his channel. Imagine me posting Substack-articles about German history as Adolf.
I'll always have this connotation in the back of my mind when watching his channel from now on. Not that I'll watch very often, before I get accused of concern trolling.
Well Adolf is essentially a universally negative name due to widespread education. Perun on the other hand was not publicized as the same considering its significance in actual Slavic pagan communities(not neo-nazi)
One can make similar argument about popular use of Roman salute in Middle East as propagated by pro-Israeli as Islam-nazis alliance; other
Looking at his channel, his first video was published five years ago and he did a lot of videos on strategic gaming, which is probably why he got the Perun as symbol of “conquest” and so on. So I guess one shouldn’t concern too much about it that it might affect your evaluations of the contents?
"Well Adolf is essentially a universally negative name due to widespread education"
It's a bit like a Russian mercenary group calling itself Wagner. For a lot of people, there will be an association with Hitler's favourite composer, especially with the push of some propaganda.
I had already evaluated the contents of the Perun YT channel before I knew what Perun was and what some of its negative connotations are: Not bad at all for a pro-Ukrainian outlet, probably one of the best, but still predicated on simplified western narratives and assumptions based on obviously faulty sources of info (Oryx, etc).
Hyperborea was a country in Howard's "Hyborian Age" for his Conan stories, and I think fewer people are aware of any of the country's names (except, maybe, Conan's Cimmeria) than the name for the time they were situated.
"Hands are cut" ??? Whose hands?
I assume those of the participants, as an initiation ceremony

Maybe he only looked at Perun as a mythological symbol without neo-Nazi connotation.

"Hyperborean kitsch"
Don't you mean "Hyborian kitsch"?

The idea of Hyperborea is extremely popular among Slavic pagan nazis. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperborea#Hyperborea_in_radical_Russian_nationalist_and_neo-Nazi_imagery
